The Holy Land:
as a Christian what springs to mind, what does it mean to you?
- The birthplace of Jesus
- A tourist destination that would be a nice place to visit one day
- The River Jordan, The Sea of Galilee and the Dead Sea
- Ancient cities and Holy places?
Whatever your thoughts, how many of us give any consideration to the Christians who actually reside in the Holy Land, the descendants of Christians who have lived in the region for over 2,000 years? Not so long ago Christians accounted for over 30% of the population of the Holy Land. Today they number less than 2%. It is quite possible that in the not too distant future the only Christians to be found in the Holy Land will be Clergy and foreign tourists.
The daily lives of many Christians in Palestine consist of: sub standard housing, inadequate medical services, poor educational facilities and lack of employment opportunities.
Due to the uncertain political climate over the last few years, the number of tourists visiting the region has dropped significantly causing hundreds of Christian craft workshops to close and leaving many Christian artisans unemployed. Jobs are scarce in the region especially for Christians in the 'West Bank'. We at the Christian Triangle are working to help alleviate this situation by opening a Co-operative Craft Centre in the predominantly Christian town of Beit Sahour, Palestine. We are also embarking upon a marketing campaign for Christian crafts and are helping to market them abroad as well as importing them into the UK.
Welcome to the Christian Triangle where we are establishing a collection of iconic historical Christian figures, 4th century onwards, associated with Christianity and the Holy Land. Our 'About us' and 'How it all started pages' will give you an insight into our raison d'etre.
Why the 4th century onwards? It is very easy to forget that there is more to early Christianity than Christ, The Apostles and The Madonna. The gospel was spread by the efforts and words of great men and women whose devotion to the glory of God produced many martyrs and whose praises are celebrated in a diversity of festivals
The Saints and Martyrs may have spread the gospel, but it was impassioned men, inspired by a religious spirit who defended the borders of Christianity. Great leaders and historic personage are remembered but the identities of the common soldiers and knights who fought are lost to us forever, for we do not know their names. Countless tens of thousands of them throughout the centuries, who filled the ranks, manned the walls, sailed the ships and faced the charge.
However, what they stood for lives on in the Christian Orders that they fought under. It is in tribute to them that we have great pleasure in introducing our Defenders of the Faith Knights Busts to commemorate and honour the existence of these Christian Orders of Chivalry and of the men who, throughout the centuries, Defended the Faith!
All our Defenders of the Faith Knights Bust come with a sachet of genuine soil from the Holy Land, conveying a small sample from the land that our Lord Jesus Christ once walked upon into your home.
Our Defenders of the Faith series follows on from our successfull Knight Templar figure where the production run has come to an end. A new Christian Knight figure is being produced which, when finished, will be personalised to each individual Christian Chivalric Order. Please sign up for our newsletter where you will receive advance information of this and future releases.
